Cockermouth Scottish Country Dance Club started in 1960 with a few friends, and blossomed into a thriving club, formerly known as Derwent SCDC. It now meets at the Methodist Church Hall, Lorton Street, Cockermouth every Thursday evening. It celebrated its' 50th Anniversary in 2010.
The class teacher is Angela Garrison. Angela has been a member of the club for 20 years and during that time has become a fully qualified Scottish Country Dance teacher.
Retired dance teacher Evelyn Ramwell taught the class for 17 years. She continues to support us in her role as Joint President of our club with her husband Joe.
The club has a healthy membership of approximately 40 men and women and is always keen to welcome new members.
You don’t need to bring a partner or be super fit. A good sense of humour, and the ability to listen to directions are all you need to enjoy the music and movement within a friendly group.
The year runs from September to May and beginners will receive a progressive introduction to Scottish Dancing.
As well as the classes, there are many dances held throughout the year by ourselves and other clubs around Cumbria and further afield.
Scottish Country Dancing is social dancing at its best!
Please come and join us.
